My mom, both grandmothers and three aunts were always baking wonderful stuff when I was growing up, so I had a lot of wisdom in the kitchen to pull from. Even my dad makes a candy called “divinity” for Christmas and his mom’s “spritz” cookies were legendary and devoured by the dozen.
Parties were epic in our family and there was always a reason for “entertaining.” It could be Ground Hog Day and that meant...PARTY! We found many excuses over the years to gather family and friends for enjoying great food and baked treats. The adults drank grandpa’s famous Sloe Gin punch and the kids got Shirley Temples.
Cocktail Cakes™ came about in the year 2000, when my sister was about to be married and we were trying to come up with a delicious wedding cake, without frosting. Neither of us like frosting and most wedding cakes look amazing, but are usually not so tasty. She came across a recipe for a Midori cake and we decided to alter it, utilizing the liquors that we liked most, instead. We decided on Kahlua, Grand Marnier and Limoncello. In order to make the cakes white, we dusted them with powdered sugar. To make them prettier, we added fresh flowers and...voila! A new cake was born.
We hope you enjoy eating our cakes as much as we enjoy creating them!
